Size Guide
Choosing the right size for a formal dress can feel uncertain, especially when every event matters. This guide explains how Vesporina presents sizing information on product pages, how to take accurate measurements, and what to consider before selecting a size. Because our collection spans different silhouettes and construction methods, the most reliable information is always on the individual product page.
How Sizing Is Presented on Product Pages
Most Vesporina dresses use letter sizes ranging from S to 3XL, with some styles also offering XS. Each product page that includes a size chart lists key measurements in inches—typically bust, waist, and hip, and occasionally garment length. These numbers represent body measurements (the dimensions they are designed to accommodate), not the flat-lay dimensions of the finished garment. When you see a single value rather than a range, or when a length measurement is included, that data may describe the garment itself. Always check the label or context on the specific product page to confirm which type of measurement you are reading.
Manual measurements on our product pages may vary by approximately 0.4 to 1.2 inches due to the nature of hand-taken readings. This tolerance is normal and should be factored into your decision, particularly if your measurements fall near the edge of a size range.
Measuring Yourself Accurately
You will need a soft, flexible measuring tape. Wear form-fitting undergarments or the shapewear you plan to wear with the dress. Stand naturally with your arms relaxed at your sides—do not suck in your stomach or hold your breath.
Bust: Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, keeping it parallel to the floor. The tape should sit snugly against your skin without compressing the tissue.
Waist: Locate your natural waistline, which is typically the narrowest point of your torso, just above the navel. Run the tape around this area without pulling tight. If you are unsure where your natural waist falls, bend sideways—the crease that forms is your natural waistline.
Hip: Measure around the widest part of your hips and buttocks, usually 7 to 9 inches below your natural waist. Keep the tape level all the way around.
Write down all three numbers before you begin browsing. Having them ready makes it straightforward to compare against any product's size chart.
Reading a Size Chart and Choosing
Once you have your body measurements, compare each one against the ranges listed on the product page. The most important measurement depends on the silhouette: a fitted bodice or mermaid gown places emphasis on bust and waist, while an A-line or column skirt may be more forgiving at the hip. Some product descriptions include fit notes such as "slim fit," "regular fit," or "figure-skimming," along with stretch information. Use these cues together with the numbers, not instead of them.
If your measurements fall between two sizes, look at the specific product page for any sizing recommendation. Several of our dresses suggest sizing up when between sizes, particularly those with structured bodices or minimal stretch. However, this advice is product-specific—a style with comfortable stretch may behave differently from one with a tailored, non-stretch construction. Do not apply one product's recommendation to another.
Remember that a size chart tells you the body dimensions a garment is designed to fit. It does not account for personal preference regarding how snug or relaxed you want the dress to feel. If you prefer more room through the hips or a less body-hugging silhouette, that preference is valid and worth considering alongside the numbers.
